Book Description

Cadeon Ashwood is a dominant man who has one problem: he’s overly possessive. When he meets Violet Moore for the first time, he knows she is the woman for him. The possessive instinct she stirs within him can only mean one thing—she will be the woman who owns his heart.

Violet is a shy young woman who is trying to make her way in the world, but she has a dark past filled with shame. She is constantly looking over her shoulder.

When Cadeon sees an opportunity to get close to the younger woman, he takes it with everything he’s got. She drives him crazy with the way she bows her head, and her innocent blushing makes Cadeon want her more.

For too long she’s lived without love and safety. Cadeon offers her everything, but will she live long enough to enjoy it?

2.0 out of 5 stars Very Disappointing August 5, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
"His Possession" is the first book by Sam Crescent that I've read; I was so excited about reading this story because the plot seemed interesting, and I went through great pains to find it, that being said I'm pissed off at this book. For nearly $6 I got a book with a flimsy plot, flat characters with crude and juvenile dialogue, uneven story development/inconsistency and bad editing.

From the start the author didn't make me care about and/or like the main characters Cadeon and Violet; throughout the entire story I kept asking myself "why are these two together?" Cadeon's obsession with Violet was just unbelievable; there were never any particular reasons or qualities given for his obsession with her. Also for a man of 40 I expected a lot more maturity with the ability to express himself better, towards Violet. He was purported as being a wealthy, cultured, successful man, however every time he opened his mouth he spoke and behaved like someone in their 20s. I lost count of the times he kept referring to Violet's breast as "tits" and her vagina in other vulgar terms. Also for someone who kept professing his love and need to protect Violet he always referred and/or described the thought and action of them being physically intimate by using the "F" bomb constantly. He rarely called it "making love", if ever.

Violet was flat, she had no personality outside of being scared and timid all the time, and mooning over Cadeon. Her "past" as the author kept referring to was actually more interesting than her. I felt like the author coined Violet as being a "natural submissive" as a lazy way of not taking the time to actually develop the character and explain what her definition of a "natural submissive" means, as if to say that being naturally submissive explained her doormat behavior and inability to speak up and form her own opinions. Violet is portrayed as having had an unimaginably difficult childhood, and the circumstances of that made her naturally weary of trusting or getting close to anyone for fear of rejection or worse. However, within a few hours of "officially" meeting Cadeon she has been bulldozed by him into moving into his home, sleeping in his bed and forced to accept a level of intimacy that she is clearly not familiar with or emotionally equipped to handle. Because Cadeon wanted to possess her like a new toy or acquisition he was selfish and immature in considering her needs. Not once did she give a true an honest objection to anything he wanted; sure she made a token effort a time or two in the whole story, whenever I thought she'd actually develop a backbone and put her foot down in one sentence, in the next paragraph she would meekly acquiesce to whatever Cadeon wanted, because after all she was "his" which Cadeon kept reminding her and anyone else who would listen with the maddening frequency throughout the book.

I probably could have forgiven all of the fore mentioned things if the writing and editing hadn't been sub-para The story didn't flow and there was so much unexplained about each character that I found myself with more questions than answers, adding to the melee are a bunch of supporting characters and sub-plots that are also flat and under developed, it added more mess, confusion and unanswered questions, some so simple that had they been answered it would have actually given the characters and the story depth that it lacked.

I wish that this review could've been positive; whether or not I like, love or just respect the characters in the end, I would've at least liked to have felt something; In all honesty I just wanted it to be over and I also wanted my money back.

Wtf? How many times did this author use the word possession? Jiminy Crickits! I swear it was like maybe 300 times! By the end of the second chapter I was wishing it was a paper back so I could do 2 things....one, cross out every other time the word possession was used and two, throw the damn thing! But that aside, even though I know it's fiction, it was also bull. Pls stop. You have potential. Just don't write like the language is so limited.

2.0 out of 5 stars a letdown August 25, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
If you want read about dominant men and BDSM, go and read Cherise Sinclair.

Although the book does not delve extensively into BDSM per se, we are told throughout the book that Cadeon is a 'dark dominant' and Violet has 'natural submissive' tendencies.

However the writer fails to flesh the main characters that they appear so one-dimensional, instead of individuals grappling with conflicting moral, social, and emotional issues.

We are instead given simplistic knee jerk reactions from Violet, like "her tears started to fall down her face" whenever she was upset. It felt as if that was the only emotion the naive, backbone-less heroine could muster.

For someone with Violet's past, I will not go into details here, she is made to look like a lily-white sexual innocent who somehow miraculously adopted, a see no evil, hear no evil, stance that has left her unscathed from the harsher realities of life.

And all we are told again and again is that she is scared of men but I never got to FEEL her anxiety. I didn't feel for her, period. And the blame falls totally on the quality of the writing.

As for Cadeon, he comes across as a dirty old man who sexually harasses his employees. (The hero is 40 while the heroine is just 21.)

With a more articulate writer, we would have been privy to the inner workings of Cadeon's mind and come to fully understand and appreciate his possessive nature.

Instead, we were told countless of times that Violet is his and thus ready to be subjected to his nefarious and unwanted sexual harassment. It felt like a case of a Neanderthal beating his chest, waiting to club his female into submission.

What was in his personality or his character make-up that drew him to the mousy Violet?

To say his father was also a possessive man and that somehow Cadeon had been infected with a similar insidious "gene" as if he was a feral animal is not enough. This premise would have been more believable if he was a werewolf.

There is a scene in the book, where Cadeon seeks his uncle's Michael's advice and we are told Cadeon belongs to a group of men who are possessed with a "gene so strong" that they will not rest until they get a special woman by their side.

We are warned that Cadeon is a "member of this club" -- the club called Possession -- heaven help us!!

Apparently Cadeon is not the only one infected. I'm sure we will have stories of the other men mentioned, such as Tate and Kevin. The premise of the next story in series could be interesting. But I don't know if the writing style will appeal to me.

This is what I found so frustrating.'His Possession' could have been a great book, and a great start to a series, if it had been written well, but unfortunately for me, it did not live up to its promise.

More About the Author

Sam Crescent is passionate about fiction. She loves a good erotic romance and it only made sense for her to spread her wings and start writing. She began writing in 2009 and finally got that first acceptance in 2011.

She loves creating new characters and delving into the worlds that she creates. When she's not panicking about a story or arguing with a character, she can be found in her kitchen creating all kinds of havoc. Like her stories the creations in the kitchen can be just as dubious but sometimes things turn out great.

I want to take the time to mention that I'm from the United Kingdom and most of my books I use UK spellings.
