Book Description

Harlequin Blaze July 1, 2002

Enough is enough! When Liza Sanguinetti realizes that her past relationships have been as shallow as her Hollywood lifestyle, she decides it's time to get a better grip on reality. But maybe her attempt at celibacy at the same time is pushing it! After stumbling into Canyon Springs, New Mexico, on an extended vacation and getting an eyeful of the sexy town sheriff, she knows this is one vow she'll be delighted to break....

Dylan Jackson, an ex-vice cop, is a man with little time for Liza's big-city ways—he left his taste for that kind of woman back in Vegas...or so he thinks. Yet Liza's need for control in all situations piques his libido, and soon the battle to dominate begins...starting in the bedroom.

4.0 out of 5 stars hot yet humorous contemporary romance, July 7, 2002
This review is from: His Private Pleasure (Harlequin Blaze) (Paperback)
Los Angeles resident Liza Sanguinetti needs to get away from Hollywood so the public relations guru uses the excuse of her only friend's wedding in Wyoming to flee the big city. However, instead of returning home Liza drives to Santa Fe and based on a brochure continues on to Canyon Springs, New Mexico. Her first sight in the small town is the butt of Sheriff Dylan Jackson up a tree trying to coax a bird to come down to him, but Mango the Cockatoo will not cooperate. When they finally get the bird down, his mother and Fire Marshall Tucker arrive.

Liza decides to hang around town a bit longer as she enjoyed the bird incident and its aftermath with Dylan and his mom. Rather quickly, the townsfolk adopt Liza as one of them, making this the first time she feels she has found a home. However, whether she stays resides within the heart of the town's sheriff as Liza and Dylan fall in love while competing for whom will dominate the bedroom.

HIS PRIVATE PLEASURE is a hot contemporary romance that blends exciting sex with a humorous romance. Though the complexities of their relationship is too easily surmounted through Dylan's experience as a former Vegas cop and her willingness to forego her Hollywood job as she was "Searching for a Rainbow" and found a new life providing PR services to the locals. Still the lead couple is a dynamic pair and his mother, her bird, and Marshall Tucker add humor that turn Donna Kauffman's latest novel into a terrific torrid tale.

5.0 out of 5 stars A True Romance, February 27, 2011

This review is from: His Private Pleasure (Harlequin Blaze) (Paperback)
His Private Pleasure was an awesomely good read from beginning to end without a single misstep. One of the best examples of a series romance that I have read in years. Liza and Dylan are both comfortable in their own skin and understand that although they are both highly successful in their chosen profession it was time to make a change in their lives if they wanted to survive. Liza was at the top of her game as a Hollywood PR Agent when she decided to close shop after a failed relationship made her take a hard look at her life and realized if she wanted a committed relationship like her best friend she needed to leave her old life behind and work on finding herself. Dylan was on the fast track to becoming the youngest Captain of the Las Vegas Police Department when he decided to give it up and go home to Canyon Springs New Mexico. He knew his skills would be put to good use as Sheriff and his need for protecting the town he loved would be more fulfilling than putting away Vegas scum in the morning and watching them walk in the afternoon.
It was a romance readers dream to experience these two smart, witty and singular individuals become a couple. There were no dumb misunderstandings or one sided POV's. They both had fears and secret desires that they were able to work through by slowly learning to trust each other and of course the sex was an added bonus. What made this a 5 star read for me was not the Hot sex which was done extremely well, it was the conversations between Liza and Dylan. Donna Kauffman wrote a template of how romance characters fall in love through dialogue and when done well the reader will fall right along with them.
There was a good side story involving a little left over business from Dylan's Vegas days that fit in nicely, but it did not hijack the story. If you are looking for a true romantic read about falling in love I highly recommend "His Private Pleasure".
