I've reviewed many John Wayne films, and I've used many adjectives describing our guy. Tough, Gruff, Rough, Powerful,the big fella, are a few of the terms I used, and now I will use a couple I never thought I would regarding The Duke. Cute..Absolutely adorable! Somewhere in his mid twenties John Wayne, before he became the very rough and tough guy we love, starred in "His Private Secretary" a cutesy romantic comedy from 1933, and real treat and different look at The Duke early on.

So in this film, a very cute John Wayne plays a playboy. He is the son of a rich business tycoon, and doesn't do much of anything except chase girls. His Dad decides to put a stop to his son's roving ways. He puts him to work! He is to collect money from debtors. But don't think that will stop our guy. The gals are still his main focus. And then it happens..he falls head over heals in love with Marion(Evelyn Knapp, who gets top billing over Wayne by the way), and throws caution to the wind and marries her. Although Marion had no idea of his wealth before the marriage, Dad, thinks she must be a gold digger, before he meets her. She decides to face him, and winds up working as his secretary, all the while not knowing who she is. Meanwhile our guy The Duke, has a little trouble shaking his reputation and must prove to his bride, he is worthy of her.

Lots of fun! This film is also included in a 2 DVD set by Platinum Disc and is listed as John Wayne/Great American Westerns Vo (exactly like that). Mostly old Western/Mysteries from the Lone Star series of films. The other 3 films on the DVD with this one are "Rainbow Valley", "Paradise Canyon" and "Shadow of the Eagle"( a 12 chapter serial)The ASIN to search by for this set is B0001OGVBM.
