5.0 out of 5 stars What a man. He's a mighty good man!!!!!!!
His Wicked Ways has a strong (but not obnoxious) heroine who is in no way ordinary, a back story which is compelling but doesn't get in the way of the love story, and of course a wonderful hero. Both the hero and the heroine have secrets of their own, which are slowly brought to light by the author, like layers being peeled from a (very good) onion. Meredith and Cameron...

Meredith and Cameron were both wounded, intriguing, complex, wonderful characters. The action/suspense was fast-paced and thrilling. The setting was beautiful and exotic. The sex was HOT and perfect for the story. His Wicked Ways is a cut way above the typical historical romance. Wonderful love story, great characters with an emotionally scarred hero and strong but vulnerable heroine, unique setting, intriguing plot, edge-of-your-seat pacing, heart-tugging emotion, excellent writing, intense sensual love scenes, and a superb ending. This was just the kind of romance novel I love. Wonderful characters. Characters that seems real because they are not perfect-something most novels like this lack.

This book had everything you need to create a good romance: a dashing hero, a beautiful heroine and, most of all...PASSION! Samantha James developed Meredith and Cameron's personalities and motivations very convincingly, to the point where you feel as though you know them well enough to be friends by the time you finish the book. His Wicked Ways was an emotional roller coaster, and I felt all the pain and joy they did. I was so engrossed, I read it in a day. The love scenes are ample & steamy, and the plot is a good one. A fast paced book with an intricate plot that I cannot help but enjoy. His Wicked Ways is a cut way above the typical historical romance.

It's true that this books name is not very fitting. The hero is not wicked. But it still is a wonderful book. A sweet passionate love story. I wish my husband was more like Cameron.

This book didn't capture my interest as fast as the author's other books. The first 150 or so seemed to go by slowly, but once the characters arrive at his castle, that's when the action begins. The setting is filled with suspicion and betrayal, because the two main characters' families have been feuding for about one hundred years, yet no one knows why. I like the way the author created the bond between Meredith and Cameron's sister-in-law, and also with the other women in the castle. I also like the way she developed the love and trust between the two main characters. I look forward to reading more books from her in the future.

This was a very good book. The story line was about a girl who retreats to the convent to avoid her rapist and it was handled very well.Meredith and Camerons' love for each other builds slowly and deepens until you can almost feel it. This book was a pleasure to read and I couldn't put it down until it was finished. Ms. James is definately an excellant author.

5.0 out of 5 stars Revenge is Sweet, May 24, 2007
During an attack on his family that leaves him wounded and his father and brothers dead, Cameron MacKay, hears the Munro battle cry and sees a redheaded man from behind leading the attack. Months later, Cameron sneaks into a nunnery and kidnaps the leader of Clan Munro, Red Angus' only child his beloved daughter Meredith. Meredith will be taking her vows in just a few weeks, she came to the nunnery two years ago after a rape by an unknown assailant in her home. She never told anyone about the attack and her fear of men and not knowing who it was that attacked her led her to seek escape there. Now she is kidnapped by three very virile men who also happen to be her clan's enemies who have made it appear that she has died to make her father suffer. Cameron is stunned by his attraction to his enemy's daughter and devises a scheme to ease his longing and give him the revenge he so desperately wants, force Meredith to give him a son. Meredith can't believe she is attracted to Cameron, however she still cannot fathom letting a man touch her sexually. As she starts seeing the gentle side of Cameron she starts falling in love with him and hopes for a peaceful conclusion to her situation. She knows that her father could never have done the things they claim he did.

When the truth finally comes out about what happened to her, Cameron vows to keep her safe and make her understand he will never hurt her. Meredith is shunned by the inhabitants of the keep because of her clan, until they start seeing the gentle spirit inside. Soon Cameron and Meredith are married and she pregnant, but they still do not trust one another enough to declare love. The pair will never be happy as long as the feud stands between them but can Cameron let go of the hatred of the murderers of his family.

This was a sensual, wonderful Scottish Romance. It had everything that makes a story great, romance, suspence, action and good characters.

4.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable., November 6, 2006

I found the heroine of this novel extremely easy to like. Ms. James managed to find that magical formula of just the right amount of innocence and intelligence that endears you to a character. The hero was brawny and courageous and just a little bit broody which always appeals. Despite the fact that the characters were well developed and the plot line interesting, I gave this book only four stars because for some reason two thirds of the way through I found myself putting the book down more often than I usually do. I'm glad I bought and read the book and it will stay on my keeper shelf.

2.0 out of 5 stars Thought it would be better, October 6, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I should have been enthralled with this story, the set up is good, would be nun is captured for revenge by bold Highlander. I think I had problems with this novel because it moved slowly in the beginning and both characters were not very communicative with each other.

The story opens with Meredith Munroe, an almost nun, being captured by feuding laird Cameron MacKay. He makes it appear as if she has committed suicide so that Meredith's father will mourn her death. Cameron has a real vendetta, his father and six brothers were killed by the MacKays.

Of course, Meredith does not believe her father had anything to do with this heinous act and vehemently states this to the angry Cameron. I think part of the problem I had with Meredith was she was not altogether very diplomatic with her tone or language with a deeply greiving Cameron. Obviously he is in mourning but there is very little condolences given by Meredith. She is also way stubborn, preferring to be physically in pain rather than ask for help or admit she is wrong.

Meredith was a rape victim and she is frightened and angry. Her desire to keep Cameron at a distance is certainly understandable but her sense of self righteousness got on my nerves when she would let him know his sins. I guess as an almost nun she felt she had the right to tell him what his sins were. Meredith constantly berates herself for being weak, but I never saw this with Cameron. She more than stands her own against him.

Cameron is hostile at first but when they arrive at his keep, he becomes more open and caring. He decides the best way to heal from his ordeal is for Meredith to give him a son and shockingly she agrees to bear him a child so that she can leave the keep. I wondered how a woman could agree to leave her child behind but apparently she never realized the seriousness of the situation until later. Meredith tends to be impulsive.

The last fourth of the book moved smoothly and I liked how the leads interacted with each other. Meredith acted as if she finally liked Cameron and he became very vulnerable to her. However, this did not make up for the parts that were slow moving or for Meredith's inability to think through problems.

5.0 out of 5 stars GREAT TALE, October 24, 1999
This book was my first encounter with Ms. James' work and I was most impressed. This tale is marvelous and her characters are most convincing. I like her style and would recommend this book without reserve. I'm avidly reading some of her earlier works and look forward to the ones to come.

1.0 out of 5 stars A Contrived Mess, August 2, 2009
By
The whole plot seemed contrived to me. Everything falling too neatly and not so neatly into place, with no surprises and the characters no Charisma!
Much of the dialog didn't even make sense... to name a couple, but there were many... when the women decided to accept Meredith, they talked among themselves trying to remember why they the MacKay's were even still feuding with the Munro's at all, mentioning silly stuff and making light of it. They failed to mention the most resent reason, the death of Cameron's father and brothers, two of which had their heads on a pike, done by the Munros!! Another was, when Cameron met Meredith's father and admitted what he had done to Munro's daughter; her father was not as outraged as he should have been, even asked who Cameron was when he was wearing a Mackay plaid. Her father should have known Cameron on site, and her father even asked Mackay how far the trip from the MacKay stronghold to the Munro strong hold was. This from a clan leader that's clan has been fighting with the other clan for a hundred years. Even the ending of the book, when Meredith's Uncle knifes Cameron and pulls Meridith from the bed, Meredith is more concerned with her conversation with her Uncle than she is with Cameron laying there maybe dead or bleeding to death. You think she would be yanking away from her Uncle trying to get to her beloved. There are much more just as irritating and stupid dialog in this book. I got sick of Meredith complaining to herself and anyone who would listen, how weak, fearful and forever a coward she was, I could scream.
The first 120 pages of the book were just painfully boring with Meredith dropping to her knees praying every five minutes. This book was very poorly written and I can not recommend paying for the pleasure of reading it. But there are others here that I see disagree with me but I need a plot and dialog more grabbing, in sync and heaven forbid makes some sense!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Makes A Heart Happy, April 28, 2000
By
His Wicked Ways was the first romance novel I ever read. I had sworn I never would read one. But boredom forced me to and I was completely overjoyed a how wonderful and not-trashy it was. I would recommend this book to any one who loves stories of love that nothing can kill. The characters were enemies of the worst kind but nonetheless were meant to be. They overcame years of fueding and hatered to find the love of a lifetime. Don't pass this book up!
