4.0 out of 5 stars His Wife for a While? November 18, 2011
By Fredlet
Format:Kindle Edition
Ben Danvers is in danger of losing the family owned Reed's Orchard, because of the quirky terms of his grandfather's will. He must be married in 21 days or the orchard will be auctioned off. Chelsea Carson, the Office Manager of the orchard, has a solution to his problem with strings attached. The description of the scenes and dialogue leading up to the offered solution to Ben made me feel the tension between the two of them. And what horrible memories caused Chelsea to set the conditions she did? I really enjoyed getting to know Chelsea and Ben. His Aunt May is a hoot! The characters are well developed and their strengths and weaknesses are slowly revealed as they share past experiences. Join them on their seesaw of emotions as they deal with her being his wife for a while... or longer.

4.0 out of 5 stars A sweet and wonderful romance! November 17, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I am quickly becoming a groupie of Donna Fasano. She seems to have a magical ability to make her characters and plots believable even in this cynical unromantic modern age. This book has an old fashioned feel to it while still being a contemporary romance.

There is more to this book than just romance though as the story delves into a very difficult subject. I found myself crying while reading Chelsea's story. It is a story of romance but also of how, with the help of others, we can overcome tragedy.

5.0 out of 5 stars A beautiful romance story. November 26, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I am not much of a romance reader, but Donna Fasano has the ability to reach out and grab me and takes me on a fun journey into the world of romance writing. I enjoy the way she tells a story and feel her characters are so real that you feel they could be your next door neighbors. His Wife for a While was very enjoyable and I couldn't put it down. Donna Fasano has become one of my favorite authors and I plan on reading anything she publishes.

5.0 out of 5 stars Slightly Angsty, Simply Sweet March 17, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I'm pretty sure that I read this story when it was originally released by Harlequin. Though it still reads like a Harlequin of old (love scenes behind closed doors, relatively short novel) Fasano's updates for this Kindle edition keep the story from being dated.

The angst in the story comes from Chelsea's feelings of being unloved as a child. When the story begins, she offers to enter into a temporary, mutually beneficial marriage with Ben because she wants a child but doesn't believe that she will ever find love. Her feelings stem from an abusive childhood that she is slow to reveal to Ben because she's both ashamed and afraid of being hurt. His patience and kindness toward her result, of course, in her falling in love with him.

The sweetness in the story comes from Ben's gentle handling of Chelsea. When she first suggests the temporary marriage arrangement, Ben thinks that Chelsea is cold and unfeeling, and she does nothing to dispel that idea. Although she wants him to give her a baby, he insists that they get to know each other first. His compassion and caring make him a rather likable guy. One of the things I appreciated about the story is that Chelsea is attracted to him, but it's not about his perfect looks and killer body; it's about who he is and how he treats her.

Fasano's writing is smooth and polished.

4.0 out of 5 stars Cute but predictable ending..... June 21, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This story was really cute and highly enjoyable. This is the story of Ben who ran the family orchard. He was about to loose the orchard to auction, due to a stipulation on his grandfather's will. He must be married by a certain time or he would loose the Orchard. Chelsea worked as the bookeeper and overheard Ben's conversation with his grandmother. She of all people, shy and reserved, offered to help Ben out with a condition of her own. She was willing to marry him, with the condition that she get pregnant and have a baby. It seemed like a logical solution to their problem so they both agree.

After they get married, new rules are being introduced. They have to get to know each other before becoming intimate. They begin their process and play house. They soon both discover things about each other and spend lots of time together. Their little agreement soon becomes very fun and they are both having a great time. With dread, their agreement seems to be coming to an end because she appears to be pregnant.

Without thinking too hard, you can probably guess the ending...... But still, it was really cute, enjoyable and nice and light reading. No big dramas.

4.0 out of 5 stars Sweet marriage of convenience story September 15, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
A sweet marriage of convenience story. Ben needs to get married, and soon, if he wants to keep the family business. All Chelsea wants is a baby. She figures she can help Ben and she can get what she wants. Of course, nothing is ever so straightforward. Chelsea has issues in her past that keep her from getting close to anyone, but Ben isn't making it easy to keep her distance. A sweet romance.
