Horrible. Absolutely Horrible, June 3, 2010
This review is from: His Woman (Zebra Historical Romance) (Mass Market Paperback)
I am honestly floored that this book had any reviews over 2 stars. I had to review because I am genuinely worried someone else will buy this book. I'm not summarizing it here- just writing the review part.
There is next to no character development and we gain little insight into their feelings throughout the book except when it comes to how much they used to love each other. They're being hunted by evil people and apparently that is the time for him to begin to remember how great they were together. And then they go BACK into danger after narrowly escaping and they think more about how sexy the other is. They were both incredibly stupid TSTL really, on numerous occasions. At one point the bad dudes are apparently somewhat in the vicinity of their hiding place so she decides she should sacrifice herself by making her presence known- however they're so far away they don't even see her! WT? Why would she just assume they're going to find her?
There are numerous plot holes. She's been living as Frasyer's mistress for three years and, even though it's just for appearances sake, he NEVER sleeps with her. Supposedly he wanted to get back at Duncan for a childhood squabble and obviously the best way to do this would be to actually sleep with her! Another one- It turns out that her own father had actually maneuvered and tricked her and Frasyer so that she would become Frasyer's mistress. He, and another man, wanted to protect her and were worried a big secret about her would be discovered. However, no one suspected anything about this secret, and this was a VERY strong case of jumping the gun. Seriously- sending your daughter off to be a wicked man's whore because you think a secret that no one knows about will be revealed- that's ridiculous. And unfortunately that whole mistress thing is the main basis for the romantic storyline.
Also- there's magic. There's no mention of this anywhere, but there's some brief bits of supernatural fluff in the form of these glowing necklaces that apparently only glow when true love is around or something. Finishing this book was a chore.

Great historical romance, March 22, 2009
This review is from: His Woman (Zebra Historical Romance) (Mass Market Paperback)
Three years ago Lady Isabel broke Duncan MacGruder's heart when she ended their engagement to become the Earl of Frayser's mistress. So she is the woman he really never wants to see again, but he promised her dying brother to keep her safe. What he doesn't know is that she didn't willingly end their relationship; it was the only way to save her father. She still loves him, but will those two have a second chance for their love or are the intrigues around them stronger?
With HIS WOMAN, Ms. Cosby has written another intriguing and absolutely spellbinding novel. She takes her readers on a journey back in time to Medieval Scotland with all of the vivid details she writes about. Duncan is the perfect Highland warrior, strong and stubborn, but he has also a caring and soft side to him. At first the reader wants to wring Isabel's neck because of the way she made Duncan suffer when she ended her engagement. However, as soon as the reader gets to know her better you see behind the façade and see the reasons for her actions. Duncan is a man of honor who keeps his promise to Symon, Isabel's dying brother, no matter his hard feelings toward her. Both Isabel and Duncan are in for quite some surprises and dangers as the story goes on.
HIS WOMAN is the sequel to HIS CAPTIVE and I can tell you that there will be more MacGruder stories. I can hardly wait to read them. Ms. Cosby is definitely an author to keep an eye on, especially if you like hunky and sexy Highlanders.

Diana Cosby continues the series to new Heights, January 11, 2009
This review is from: His Woman (Zebra Historical Romance) (Mass Market Paperback)
I just feel I have to share this with fellow readers of Diana Cosby--if you think His Captive His Captive (Zebra Debut) was a lustful historical romp through Scotland's somewhat ancient past--you are really in for a wonderful wonderful surprise--with her newest book called His Woman--while they can be read separately with almost equal results--this new volume shows the direction and future of this new author to best advantage--there is little question that one day soon she will be up there with the greats of this gendre--
To be quite honest--I just couldn't put the novel down--hope she gets busy and does the next in the line so I can be up all night again finding the outcome of her wonderful storyline...Thank you Ms. Cosby for giving me a great night and adventure...keep writing and we all will keep reading...
