Finally, some truth about Trudeau., October 2, 2000
This review is from: His pride, our fall: Recovering from the Trudeau revolution (Paperback)
Since the death of former Prime Minister Trudeau, the media has waxed poetic on the man's charm, charisma and zest for life. While not one to speak ill of the dead, I found myself sickened by the accolades accorded to the late Trudeau.
In the 70s, the Canadian dollar was worth $1.07 U.S. Today, it is worth 66 cents. This devaluation of our dollar and the corresponding devaluation Canada, are thanks largely to Trudeau's socialist rule. From multiculturalism to official bilingualism to the National Energy Policy, his policies demonstrated an arrogance and lack of fiscal responsibility that truly crippled Canada.
<<His Pride, Our Fall>> is a keenly insightful work. Its author was not blinded by his subject's charm or sex appeal; McDonald clearly describes Trudeau's legacy and, in so doing, paints a damning picture of an egotistical and self-satisfied leader. It serves as an effective cautionary tale for Canadian and international readers alike.
