Good Collection, but little that's new for old fans,
This review is from: Hisaishi Meets Miyazaki Films (Audio CD)
If you allready own the Princess Mononoke Symphonic Suite and the Spirited Away soundtrack, you have two thirds of the music on this album allready. If you don't allready own them, it will be worth the extra money to buy the whole albums seperately instead. To the credit of the publisher though, they picked the tracks that I would have picked myself for "best of" selections from those two albums - I suppose if you're trying to introduce someone brand new to Hisaishi's music this isn't a bad place to start. The Spirited Away tracks sound in a few places as if they're a different recording from the soundtrack album, but not different enough to be truly unique in the way the Mononoke symphonic suite is to the Mononoke original soundtrack. Thanks to the wonder of the digital age, however, you can and should buy and download the Nausicca tracks and the Porco Roso one if you wish: the soundtracks were never released in the USA and you can't easily get these anywhere else. Overall: a Three-star track list, plus a bonus star just for being Joe Hisaishi music.
