Customer Reviews

Very easy to set up and works great!
I found that I had to unplug it to get it to turn back on.
Keyboard side of the Remote would not work.

I am a former user of the Logitech Revue unit for Google TV, which I have enjoyed very much, but its performance is not up to what the most modern units can provide and it's no longer getting upgrades, so the standard Google TV interface of the Hisense Pulse (fewer delays in getting updates from Google) and its promises of better performance appealed to me. The unit does perform very well overall - much faster performance than the Revue, with HDMI 1.3 standards compatibility for higher quality video output for those units that are also using this newer standard for digital video. The software on the Pulse includes the new Mini-Guide for the Google TV Primetime app, which recommends content that I might like. The remote is actually quite nice, I could quibble with the placement of some of the buttons but overall it's quite usable, with the flip-side keyboard working fine and the touchpad for Web browsing having a nice grippy surface and simple scrolling and tap-clicking. The shortcut buttons to the Web, Netflix and other key programming sources are also handy, not too many of them and not too big, either, so they're not annoying. I also like the keyboard on the reverse side of the remote, nice size for people used to phones or tablet keyboards, and it includes the joystick input controls, home button, back button, options menu and PIP control also found on the front of the remote. Ideally the touchpad would be on the same side, but that's a relatively minor hardship to get a good, single-hand remote.

If there's one place where the Pulse is weak it's in the setup. A few things to make sure of when you're setting it up: 1) make sure to plug in the IR blaster ALL the way into the back of the unit.

Before I review, I just want to say that Amazon is awesome. They upgraded me to free overnight shipping right before Christmas. Although Ontrac lost my package, Amazon shipped another one out to me and I had it in two days. Their customer service is great. Keep it up Amazon!

I was really looking forward to this device from Hisense. I waited for it to be released for a couple of months and it wasn't available just a week before Christmas, so I ended up with a Roku 2 XD. My intent was always to gift it to my mom, but I also wanted to check out Google TV for myself.

One potentially cool feature that this box appears to support is the integration of live tv into the search function. It has a HDMI in, which you connect from your Cable box or Satellite service. However, this feature is useless if you are a cord cutter, like me ( and like I'm setting my mom up to be - saving her over $100 a month ). This box would have much more value if it supported over the air HD broadcasts via a built in HD tuner.

GTV = Google TV.

GTV supports Netflix, as does the Roku.
GTV doesn't support Hulu Plus. Roku does.
GTV doesn't support NBA League Pass. Roku does.
GTV supports Youtube, Roku does not.
GTV has Chrome (I'll elaborate more on this), Roku does not have a web browser.

Pulse remote is busy. I had some problems early on with typing letters repeating themselves rapidly. It was a problem, although they may have fixed this with an update? The touch pad is pretty cheap feeling and it doesn't work that great. Navigating in general can be awkward at times, especially with options and going backward. I could live with the remote and I like that it has a keyboard on it. My mom hated the remote. The Roku remote is extremely simple and my mom loves it.

My first impressions of the hisense pulse is mixed at this time. I just hooked it up today, setup was easy, instruction manual was terrible, a lot more info is needed to understand more about this product. I was not able to connect IR blaster to work with my Dish Network HDTV receiver even tho its listed in the setup feature , or my LG TV. Also Netflix would not load completely, it would start to show the red screen then stop and give message to try Netflix help. It will not work with Amazon Prime Videos at this point, but I guess that will be coming next year when they update the software again. It does work good with YouTube, with the new app you can send videos from you smartphone or tablet to the hisense to play. I will be contacting support after Christmas to see if they can get the device to work with my Sat receiver, if not then I will return it and wait for the bugs to be worked out of it before I think about a repurchase. It a good entry price for the product, but it may be a good idea to wait for more reviews and see if update fixes some of these problems.If you watch videos they show the unit can do a voice search, however that function is not working now either, hmmmm that's in the next update as well I guess ? I will update my review if any of my problems gets resolved.

Update # 1 --- Went to Hisense community and was helped with setting up the Dish Network receiver- so that is in fact working now, like i said the owners manual is no help with setting this up so now on to the next issue.
