Editorial Reviews

From Library Journal

Keller (Hispanic Research Ctr., Arizona State Univ.) continues the work in film analysis he began with Chicano Cinema: Research, Reviews and Resources (Bilingual Pr., 1985). This new work concentrates on brief analyses of Hispanic film roles, players, and film types from the earliest motion pictures right up to Erik Estrada's latest assignment. Ten years in the making, it contains a mine of hard-to-find information in this underresearched area. Readers, however, may find themselves wishing for a multimedia presentation on CD-ROM as the ideal accompaniment to this material. A partial solution is presented by a complementary volume, A Pictorial Handbook of Hispanics and United States Film, due next year. The two works were conceived as one but grew too large, and the index-which is absolutely necessary-will appear in the forthcoming book. Recommended for larger film and Chicano studies collections, with the caveat that they must purchase both books.
