Format: Paperback
This is a wonderful history of El Salvador in Spanish, using large print and many black and white illustrations, cartoons, and caricatures, all making clever points about various aspects of the history of El Salvador, particularly its long history of injustice, starting from the Conquest to the civl war of the 1980's and beyond. It is written by the scholarly team "Equipo Maiz" and they have done an exceptional job. Although it may seem like a children's book, actually it is fairly complex and comprehensive.

I used this book extensively for research in getting background for an article I wrote on the El Mozote massacre. (I have reviewed a book about this massacre by Mark Danner separately.)

There is a newer edition which came out in 2008.
