5.0 out of 5 stars The best of his music, no doubt!
It's about time Ricky released a greatest hits collection, and what a collection it is. It's filled to the brim with some of his most memorable spanish language hit singles, most of them hit #1 on the Latin Charts.

All the familiar ones are there: "Maria", "La Copa De La Vida", "Livin' La Vida Loca" and "Te Extrano Te Olvido Te...

3.0 out of 5 stars "Fuego contra Fuego" and "El Amor De Mi Vida" the best.....
The only thing worth mentioning on this cd are the new versions of "Fuego contra Fuego" and "El Amor De Mi Vida" which came out really nice, their is a new and fresh sound to them. These songs can give a true battle to any of the other songs in the cd..... like if they were at their best moment..... as for the rest of the cd, nothing new. If you...

5.0 out of 5 stars The best of his music, no doubt!, April 29, 2001

It's about time Ricky released a greatest hits collection, and what a collection it is. It's filled to the brim with some of his most memorable spanish language hit singles, most of them hit #1 on the Latin Charts.

All the familiar ones are there: "Maria", "La Copa De La Vida", "Livin' La Vida Loca" and "Te Extrano Te Olvido Te Amo". A delightful addition comes in the form of the Spanish version of "Nobody Wants To Be Lonely" called "Solo Quiero Amarte". It's very beautifully performed and Ricky really emotes that forlorn lovesick message across like the pro he is. If you thought the English duet version with Christina Aguilera wasn't quite your cup of tea, try this one. It's way, waaaaay better.

Other notable cuts include "La Bomba", "Por Arriba Por Abajo" and of course "She Bangs". Oh yes, look out for two reworked versions of his earliest hits :"Fuego Contra Fuego" and "El Amor De Mi Vida". If you have his 1991 debut Spanish album, try pitting the two versions and you'll see the progress Ricky has made since then. And if the jazzy versions on this album are any indication of his future musical leaning, then his future albums will be something to look out for.

Of course, as with any compilation album, there will always be glaring ommisions; this one is no exception. I was disappointed to find that my favourite tracks "Gracias Por Pensar En Mi" and "No Importa La Distancia" not included. And if you liked his 1993 disc "Me Amaras", too bad because none of the tracks from that album made it here. And Sony Discos should've included "Dame Mas" (spanish version of his third single of the Sound Loaded CD -"Loaded") just to spice things up a little. It's a fantastic track that will get everybody's bon-bon shaking.

Perhaps, it should have been a double disc release, for that would be the only way to include everybody's favourite track on it. Or maybe there'll be a Part Two coming our way? We can only hope and pray. In the meantime, I'm waiting for his next Spanish language disc.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great collection of Ricky's spanish-language hits, August 13, 2001
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Historia (Audio CD)
Being primarily a fan of Ricky Martin's more recent work, I have been slowly branching out to his earlier albums. This means that basically I had only listened to Vuelve, his most recent Spanish-language album, before ordering LH on the recommendation of fellow fans. I found this collection of hits to be very good, a wonderful sampling of what I knew already and what I had yet to learn about this wonderful artist. Some of my standout favorites, in fact, come from his third album, A Medio Vivir, including "Volveras" and "Fuego de Noche, Nieve de Dia."

I think that many people unfamiliar with Ricky are unaware that he has been performing for nearly 20 years and is now working on his 8th album. Most people believe his work began with Vuelve or perhaps even 1999's "Ricky Martin". La Historia allows new Ricky fans to sample his previous work before going out and buying all of his earlier albums, and it also includes the spanish-language versions of the now-familiar songs She's All I Ever Had, She Bangs, Nobody Wants to Be Lonely, and Livin la Vida Loca.

For die-hard fans, LH is a great collection of the best and the brightest. I strongly recommend it for all listeners!

This Spanish language compilation draws together the best of all six of Ricky Martin's albums! Even if you have all six of his albums already (as I do), it's great to have the best together on one album--and his newly recorded versions of "Fuego Contra Fuego" and "El Amor De Mi Vida" demonstrate how much he has matured as an artist since they first appeared on his first self-titled "Ricky Martin" album in 1991. I don't speak Spanish, but Ricky's songs in Spanish are AWESOME!!! Buy this--you'll love it!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best of the Best, February 28, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Historia (Audio CD)
What a wonderful way to hear the very best of six of Ricky's albums. If you are a fan of the newer music what a pleasant surprise to hear some of the earlier music that made him famous before we "discovered" him in the USA. Guaranteed to make you want to learn Spanish! The music shows that language is no barrier for pure enjoyment. Even if you have other Ricky Martin albums, the selections on this one gather the best of Ricky so far!

Love horns, love piano, love electric and/or acoustic guitar, violens, drums, a voice that will hit parts of you that you weren't aware were there . . . ? This album has it ALL. 99.9% Spanish lyrics, but your mother tongue could be of a distant minority, this album crosses ALL bariers. Ricky Martin most definitely proves himself a Musical, Spiritual Master, in touch with his soul, the soul of all us mere mortals! Open your big heart, your mind, let the music in and let "La Historia" change your life now and, no exaggeration, for all time . . .

4.0 out of 5 stars Flashback of a Success, January 20, 2003

This review is from: Historia (Audio CD)
Do I speak Spanish? I barely can work it...
Does that stop me from buying a cd in a language i do not master? NO!
Everyone who likes Ricky Martin when he sings in English should buy this, because when he sings in Spanish he's just as good.
Of course you do notice differences...
Aside from the Spanish versions of some of his worlwide hits (MARIA, LA COPA DE LA VIDA, LIVIN' LA VIDA LOCA, BELLA and SHE BANGS), most of the tracks appearing here are ballads.
And Ricky unveils such a talented attitude towards the balladeer role when he says it with Spanish words, you will be gladly surprised.
VUELVE is powerful...PERDIDO SIN TI and FUEGO DE NOCHE, NIEVE DE DIA are emotionals.
But Ricky loves to shake that cute butt, and loves his audience to do it as well, so there you go with the salsa explosion of LA BOMBA and POR ARRIBA, POR ABAJO, while BOMBON DE AZUCAR is a radio-friendly pop song.
Music is the international language, breaks down any barrier...do your part and break down a bit more of that barrier.
Buy this and enjoy the flow!

5.0 out of 5 stars Ricky's Best Music, March 16, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Historia (Audio CD)
This is Ricky Martin at his finest, singing in his mother tongue. He's warmer and more sensuous. This will make you want to curl up with that Special Someone for sure! If you haven't given Ricky's Spanish songs a try, please do. You won't regret it; I promise you. You don't need to know the language, you'll get the message from the emotion and the sound alone. But then again, it may encourage you to take Spanish like it did me! It's one of Ricky's goals.. to spread his culture around the world, and his songs are definitely doing the job! Enjoy!

4.0 out of 5 stars great, not greatest, hits, May 1, 2001
This review is from: Historia (Audio CD)
This CD so far surpasses--even though it's a retrospective---"Sound Loaded" that the SONY moguls should have released only this one for 2001, and allowed RM and company time (notice he's not touring with "SL") to put together a worthy English (mainly) album. "Solo Quiero Amarte" shows quite clearly that the song doesn't need Christina; the new "Amor de mi Vida" is soulful; the original "Copa" is the best. However, "Maria" should have been the more sensual one from "A Medio Vivir", and any compilation that doesn't include "Casi un Bolero", by definition (in my book) can't be called "greatest". But Ricky's voice and the superior musicianship deserve 4 stars. (One thing though: RM seems to be overly fond of the Phil Spector "Wall of Sound" reverbs; does this indicate his pipes are going?)
