This review is from: Historia de la Vida el Buscon: Llamado Don Pablos (Clasicos Espanoles) (Spanish Edition) (Paperback)
When I took a class about the picaresque novel, I did not know how entertaining was going to be. This novel, a Spanish master piece of the picaresque literature from from the sixteen and seventeen centuries was required for that class. Through the pages of this book, I found the story, adventures, events, and the journey of a child "Livin' La Vida Loca" on the streets of Segovia, Alcalá, and Madrid. This poor kid is an example of "good for nothing" person that lived a life of crime and vandalism. Hunger and abuse were part of his life. His story is narrated in first person by the adult character, Pablo. He started from his childhood, his parents and relatives, and moved along in his life from master to master. This is a trait of the picaresque novel, started previously by the famous anonymous novel "Lazarillo de Tormes". The novel was written as a social satire and critique by the legendary Miguel Angel de Quevedo. He gave us a closer look to the life of criminals and poor in contrast with the corruption and politics of the time. The character learn to open his eyes and be smart. Inocence don't take you anywere!
