Book Description

August 1, 2001
Historical Cottages of Mackinac Island captures the romance of the cottage community on Mackinac Island, Michigan through insiteful text and stunning photos of seventy-three cottages built between 1870 and 1910. Historic photos of Queen Anne, Shingle Style and Carpenter Gothic architecture are from private collections and the Michigan State Historic Park's archives. The human history of each cottage is as interesting as the its visual detail as Stites and Sterling outline the biographies of the original cottage owners.

4.0 out of 5 stars I love this wonderful book!, October 6, 2011
I visited Mackinac Island and bought this so I could remember walking by all of these historic cottages. I've read thru it twice already and will always keep it as a wonderful reminder of my trip. I only wish they would have had more pictures of how the original homes looked before newer owners added to them. I truly wish I could own one of these summer homes.

This book had such promise...could have been spectacular...but the overall feel is sub-standard...production quality is horrible...photographs are blurred, and poor quality [and I am not referring to the historical photographs]...lots of detail that would have been interesting had it been presented in a professional manner...

If you have to buy this book...get the CHEAPEST USED COPY available...if you pay full price you will be sorry...
