Starting in April 1999, light and weather permitting, four specially equipped aircraft flew the length and breadth of the country in strips - rather in the manner of a lawnmower - each one carrying state-of-the-art camera equipment. The planes systematically photographed England from an average height of 5,500 feet, recording every object below right down to a minimum size of 25cm. So far over 75,000 individual photographs have been taken on rolls of 9 inch film, each roll measuring over 500 feet long. "Historic Houses" is a selection of vertical aerial photographs of notable buildings from all over the United Kingdom.
