Not a very professional work.,

This review is from: Historic Photos of Knoxville (Hardcover)
My girlfriend and I recently read this book cover to cover together. While, yes, it was interesting, the captions were often presumptious and sometime wrong. Some images have no meaningful information. There are just numerous captions that just don't inform or misinform. It seems poorly edited with filler images with no research. If there is no relevant information on the image then it's not a historic photo it's just a photo.
Specifically one caption refers to a book authored by Mrs. Calvin Buehler when it appears it was actually written by another author. A random ferry moving cars (no idea where or any relevance). When, where and why was there a vehicle ferry in Knoxville? Another example was a photo of pole vaulters at the University of Tennesse that were labeled as "high-jumpers". There is actually a page dedicated to children washing there hands presumably in the fifties. It is captioned, "These young school children gather around to wash their hands". No context. No location. No meaning. I'll admit that much of the material is quite good, however the consistancy of missing information or lack of context heavily detracted from any confidence that we are seeing an accurate historic interpretation. It would be great if better research on context, dates, and locations was done.

A great history of Knoxville. From the first photos in the mid 1800s through the 20th century, a wonderful documentary of Knoxville's growth.
