HISTORICAL ATLAS OF CENTRAL AMERICA
I find it depressing to make a review that no one will read on a book that few will read. One reason that because few will read it is the price of the hardbound edition that Amazon offers. I was fortunate to have had the opportunity to purchase the "paperback" edition at less than half price of the hardbound. Another reason that not many will read it is I believe is,it is not well known among the circles of the general public that would find this book to be of prime importance, such as students of Latin American history, politics, culture etc. In short, I feel obligated to write a review on this book, in case it may spark an interest in someone who may happen to read this review. They need not worry about the value of what they may contemplate purchasing. This book is done in large format, superbly illustrated, packed with color coded maps on every subject. It is Encyclopedic in the scope of its' coverage of this subject. It covers in detail the Geography, Geology, History, Ethnography, and Culture of Central America. Individual chapters are written by scholars and experts in their fields. I found it particularly interesting to me as a student of the history of travel and exploration, because of its maps of the "entradas" of the conquistadors and the incursions of the "Zambos Mosquitos". Hopefully Amazon may realize the opportunity of offering the paperback edition soon and this book may begin to circulate. For any readers of this review who may want to purchase this book, but cannot find it available in their search [for instance Amazon has only one left for sale, I believe], there are some paperback editions available at less than half price at 7th St. Books, San Jose, Costa Rica, Tel.506-2256-8251, e-mail; marroca@racsa.co.cr.............I know the owner personally and you may deal with complete confidence there.
