Book Description

July 1, 1999
This book reveals the ingrained prejudices against ancient Egypt, from both the religious groups, who deny that Egypt is the source of their creed, and western rationalists, who deny the existence of science and philosophy prior to the Greeks. The book contains 47 chapters, with many interesting topics, such as the Egyptian medical knowledge about determining the sex of the unborn, and much, much more.

Editorial Reviews

Review

Historical Deception: The Untold Story Of Ancient Egypt provides a fresh, exciting and reader-friendly study of ancient Egyptian history -- a history which has suffered from the ingrained prejudices of religious scholars (Christian, Jewish, Moslem) who deny that Egypt is the source of their creeds (especially monotheism); and rationalist scholars denying the existence of science and philosophy prior to the Greeks. Historical Deception is a much needed correction to a great deal of historical distortion, suppression and denial. Historical Deception is a lively, engaging, stimulating, provocative reading, easy to read and difficult to put down. -- Midwest Book Review --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

5.0 out of 5 stars Historical Deception : The Untold Story of Ancient Egypt, November 20, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Historical Deception: The Untold Story of Ancient Egypt - Second Edition (Paperback)
Despite almost daily archaeological discoveries in the Holy Land, a lack of historical evidence to support many of the stories found in the Old Testament has given rise to many diverse interpretations of biblical "history". Readers assign the stories to the category of "fables and myths", accept the stories as absolute truths, or try to find some common ground between the two arguments. This text presents soundly based historical information that is well-researched and clearly understandable relating to the chronology of biblical events and participants. Citing sources such as the Koran, the Torah, the Talmud, the Hebrew Massoretic text of the Old Testament, and the Greek Septuagint text of the Old Testament, along with a multitude of references to more modern historical works, the author provides a realistic and reasonable explanation for many biblical puzzles and apparent inconsistencies. Throughout the text the reader is provided with exact translations of specific words and phrases from various ancient languages - words and phrases that have been the root of many misunderstandings and misinterpretations of biblical writings. Whether the reader is deeply religious or firmly NON-religious, this book provides an energetic and scholarly discussion without recourse to blind beliefs of either a secular or non-secular nature. If for no other reason, it should be read to learn and understand the true scope of the conflicts and divergent arguments surrounding the events discussed in the Bible. Personally, I am deeply NON-religious, leaning heavily toward scientific proofs rather than religious faith as a basis for historical knowledge. I consider this book a valuable and indespensible addition to my library.

5.0 out of 5 stars Let the evidence speak for itself., January 10, 2000
This review is from: Historical Deception: The Untold Story of Ancient Egypt - Second Edition (Paperback)
I recommend this book to every person who would rather learn from evidence, than from stories. While religious stories from the distant past often invoke awe and deep spirituality for a lot of people, these same people should not necessarily ignore the sources of these sacred stories. In this book, the author does not tell Christians to stop believing in Christ, nor does he tell those who are inspired by the life stories of Jesus Christ, Moses and David to stop being inspired. What he does in the book is reveal information that has been deliberately hidden by those who do not want people to know from where their deep spirituality and beliefs originated. Egypt. The author presents for us facts about the Bible and Egyptian history from numerous sources with explanations, and references that people can go verify on their own, rather than a "believe what I preach, because that is just the way it is" sort of dictatorship. When evidence is laid out, it is difficult to deny, even for the skeptical, and for the biased Egyptologist. When ancient Egyptian history is compared with the Biblical stories that came later, and also compared with Greek history and mythology, the evidence is clear. In the book, one will discover the truth about fundamental entities such as the Ten Commandments, the Dead Sea Scrolls, Hebrews in Egypt, Biblical passages, and the major impact of Egypt on today's societies. Read with an open mind what the author had researched and uncovered about the original and Biblical stories of Jesus, Moses, David, and read about Ausar (Osiris), Aset (Isis), Heru (Horus) and Set (Satan). The book is not a threat to anybody's religion. It just tells the history as it was. People have often attempted to rewrite history, but they cannot change history. Whether truth is accepted or rejected, it will always be truth, and will eventually be revealed.

2.0 out of 5 stars leaves something to be desired, November 15, 1999

This review is from: Historical Deception: The Untold Story of Ancient Egypt - Second Edition (Paperback)
This book might be useful to those who have no familiarity with new findings and theories about Egyptology and Egyptian civilization. It gives a brief overview of these new ideas and findings about Egypt's age, understanding about the pyramids, etc.

WARNING: I have seen advertisements in other sources that promote this book as a detailed study on the theory of Egypt's pre-historic antiquity, dating back 10,000, 20,000 or 30,000 years. Although the book touches on this topic, it doesn't go into it in great detail. There are probably better sources for this.

I would also point out that the book discusses theories about the "true" identity of some of the Egyptian pharaohs; i.e.; King David, Solomon, Jesus, etc. This is merely the latest in a long list of theories about Egypt, some of which are plausible, and some of which have no foundation (such as this). In my opinion it seems to be a compilation of useful, and not so-useful information about ancient Egypt.
