About the Author
Susan Herlin Broadhead is Associate Professor of History and Pan African Studies, University of Louisvill (KY), where she teaches African history. Her research focuses on the modern history of the Kingdom of Kongo, an ancient African state forcibly incorperated into colonial Angola by the Portuguese early in the 20th century.
