Editorial Reviews

Review

...well organized and clearly written....This text is the only one of its kind and provides a broad and accessible survey of Gabonese political, economic, cultural and social history. (African History )

A must for African studies programs; highly recommended... (Choice [2Nd Ed.] )

This resource for students and researchers contains hundreds of crossreferenced entries on Gabon's most important people, places, events, and institutions. A sampling of topics includes President Omar Bongo, King Denis, the International Monetary Fund, the Pygmies, and World War I. Gardinier (emeritus, history, Marquette U.) and Yates (political science, American U. of Paris) provide a general overview of the country's history and geography in the introduction. Supplementary materials include a chronology, lists of elected officials, statistical tables, and maps. An extensive bibliography, organized by subject, completes the volume. (Reference And Research Book News ) --This text refers to an alternate Hardcover edition.
