About the Author

Duncan Macphail grew up in Edinburgh, where he developed a deep interest in Scottish History. This drew him further afield to the countless historical sites in the north, west and south of the country. Noting the lack of an all encompassing guide/reference work on the market, he conceived the idea for the project which became the Handbook. Over seven years he carefully researched the people, places and events that make up 2,000 years of Scottish history. This was in part done to mark the transition from the 20th century, and in particular, the opening of the Scottish Parliament.
