Great Vintage Ads,

Wow. The car ads on her are very cool. It's almost all chevy ads, but they are remarkable. The best of the bunch are from the 1930s and 1940s and shot on high end filmstock. The television ads from the 1950s are somewhat lower quality but still pack a bunch. The best part of all of this is seeing these classic cars in their era and they look beautiful. I had a great time watching it and replayed several of the ads over and over again.

This was DVD I bought as a gift for my boss when he retired and I got good feedback afterwards. I heard later on that it is mostly Chevrolet clips and has fewer commercials of other types of cars, but that is aparently not a bad thing.
I'm told that the quality of the footage is very high and would be a good Secret Santa gift.

Good For Car Buffs,
By Deacon (America) - See all my reviews
This review is from: History of Advertising - Automobiles (1940-1950) DVD (DVD)
I found this to be a very comprehensive look at American cars in the early and late 1940s. (there were no new cars made in the mid 1940s because of World War II.)
There are great shots in these commercials of some very classic automobiles, with an emphasis on oldsmobiles that harkon back to the great days of Detroit steel. The lines are these cars put modern automobiles to shame. Unlike modern cars that need slick ads to sell, at this point all the car companies had to do was show up their cars - because they were that beautiful. Of course, if you are not into old cars, you won't get into this DVD. But, if you are like me and are into them, this is a great car buff DVD. |
