Based on over seventy interviews and archival findings, this 2006 book surveys the history of Asian American theatre from 1965 to 2005. Subjects included in the study are: actors, playwrights, audiences, alternative performances and the Miss Saigon controversy. It was the first study to document the history of Asian American theatre.

More About the Author

Esther Kim Lee is Associate Professor in the School of Theatre, Dance, and Performance Studies at the University of Maryland, College Park. She received Ph.D. in theatre history, literature, and criticism from the Ohio State University and taught theatre and Asian American Studies at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. She is the author of A History of Asian American Theatre (Cambridge University Press, 2006), which received the 2007 Award for Outstanding Book given by Association for Theatre in Higher Education.
