This is a first for the tribe, a history.
I hate to slam it but it reads like a doctorial thesis.
While it has many good points, there are no words written in Nakoda or Dakota.
No maps,no real mention of the famous Indian people in western history and how they tie to the community.
The one good thing is the photographs.

I have been looking for a factual history of the Assiniboine tribe, to find out more about my family roots, and this book is a God send. By far, this is the most thoroughly researched and interesting history of the Assiniboine tribe that I have ever read. The authors are not only tribe members, they are also lettered scholars and teachers in nationally recognized university programs. The research is exhaustive and impressive, and some of the photographs date back to the early 1900s, during the time of my grandmother. I would highly recommend this book to anyone looking for information on the tribe.
