For All Ages, March 12, 2003
This review is from: History Channel: Vietnam - Divided House (Audio CD)
I'm not a veteran, and no, I wasn't anywhere near alive when these songs were recorded or when the war was going on, but I love this CD all the same. I'm only seventeen, but in light of the upcoming war and the conflicts, I bought this CD and absolutely adored it. Whether you're a veteran, a nostalgic hippie, a grandmother, a pacficist, or maybe you're just a teen who's sick of songs with the words "baby" and "let's get on the dance floor" - I recommend this CD for you.

Great compilation, June 13, 2001
This review is from: History Channel: Vietnam - Divided House (Audio CD)
I first found out about this CD while in a record store recently and hearing some of the great songs I grew up listening to in the late 1960s and early 1970s. At first I felt like I was in a time warp. When I bought it and began listening to a pristine copy of songs like White Rabbit, A Whiter Shade of Pale, I'm Your Captain, etc it brought back a flood of memories of my early teenage years. It also brought back the specter of Southeast Asia and all the servicemen who gave their lives and those who came home expecting a hero's welcome and instead got derision and jeers. It also reminded me of what a turbulent era the 1960s and early 70s were. The first CD consists of songs the servicemen listened to and songs I remember from my junior high and early high school years. The second CD is a compliation of protest songs and it reminded me of how outspoken some of those songs were and how much those songs were commentaries of the time. Along with the CDs is a booklet with an essay written about the Vietnam era, the songs listed on the two CDs and a brief "history" of them. Here we are 25 years after the Vietnam war ended and it still remains burned in our collective consciences. I recently read a book called Voices in the Purple Haze which is a history of 1960s FM underground radio. That book and this CD give some idea of the turmoil and upheaval we all dealt with in the 1960s.

Brings Back Memories, April 20, 2001
This review is from: History Channel: Vietnam - Divided House (Audio CD)
I listened to this CD with a Vietnam Veteran. Not only did it make the hair stand up on the back of my neck, but on his as well. The second CD with the newscasts was especilly poignant. The music from that era makes you realize how much we, as a nation, have been through since that time.
