This review is from: The History of the Christian Church Until the Great Schism of 1054 (Paperback)
First off, there is no such thing as an unbiased history. We are all influenced by our environment and prejudices, and the author is no exception. He goes to great length to demonstrate that St. Peter did not found or lead the Church at Rome, listing Linus as the first bishop. This contradicts both Roman Catholic AND Orthodox tradition(the author was an Orthodox priest), as well as the evidence of the Church Fathers. Many early Church events are documented using the Bible, but others are simply atated as fact without reference to sources. Overall the book is good and informative, but despite the best efforts not unbiased. Hence the 4 stars.
