An Overview of Chicago Loop Construction,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The History of Development of Building Construction in Chicago (Hardcover)
I am a bit of a Chicago history & architecture nerd and collect books on these subjects. This is a great reference book of the development of the loop. The book is broken into several sections. One part is a general overview of major builders in early Chicago history. Another section includes all of the Rand McNally axon maps and text of the loop. The largest portion lists (every?) building constructed in the loop and includes who built it, how much it cost, when it was built, when is was demolished, what was at the site, what is currently at the site and where to find more information. Perfect for piecing together the architectural development of downtown Chicago. This is more of a reference book to help find further information and isn't so much a book to read linearaly about the development of the loop. Still, packed with fascinating information.
