This review is from: History and Doctrines of the Ajivikas (Hardcover)
Nearly forgotten today, the Ajivikas were a fascinating and influential group of Indian philosophers. Their founder Goshala was a contemporary of Buddha and Mahavir (founder of Jainism); however, unlike the Buddhists, Jains and Hindus, the Ajivikas were fatalists who believed all events are predestined. Basham has collected what little information has survived about this amazing tradition. Although we learn about the Ajivikas exclusively through the hostile accounts of rival sects, the information is riveting.
