5.0 out of 5 stars comprehensive & objective guide, February 21, 2011
This review is from: History of Ethics: Graeco-Roman to Early Modern Ethics (History of Values) (Paperback)
Bourke outlines and explains the various ethical theories that together form the history of Western moral philosophy. In Vol 1 he takes the reader from the beginnings from the early Greek philosophers to the European Ethics of the mid-18th century.
Unlike some writers in this field, Bourke doesn't feel the need to impress the reader by either a) confusing the reader with overly complicated writing or jargon, or b) telling the reader what they ought to think. This author IS impressive because he has written an objective and comprehensive guide to the history of Western Ethics that can be appreciated by academics and non-academics alike.
