The Fabian Society was founded in 1884 by a group of British intellectuals. Idealistic, enthusiastic, and, perhaps, naive reformers, the Fabian Society was the first major socialist group in the UK. Among its most prominent members were George Bernard Shaw, HG Wells, Bertrand Russell, and John Maynard Keynes. The Fabians were instrumental in forming the British Labour Party in 1900.
