An otherwise excellent book, the author seems to be pushing European contributions to the field at the expense of contributions from any Western Hemisphere countries, notably the United States.

I will admit that many books on the history of Geology written in English seem to focus on American contributions at gtteh expense of the European. However, a simple reversal of viewpoint does no one any good.

What is needed is a properly balanced treatment, unaffected by regional egotism. Perhaps that will need to be written by someone with no "skin in the game".
