1.0 out of 5 stars Good god!, February 20, 2003
This review is from: The History of Goucher College, 1930-1985 (Goucher College Series) (Hardcover)
Clearly a college with an interesting, albeit difficult, history (I am an alum), this Goucher history is written by Fred Musser, a former assistant to longtime President and propagandist Rhoda Dorsey. It is clearly a public relations work, with little interest in the opposing viewpoints of any matter and offering a sugar-coated view of one of America's most underachieving colleges.

4.0 out of 5 stars Supplement to Alumnae Quarterlies, June 20, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The History of Goucher College, 1930-1985 (Goucher College Series) (Hardcover)
Although written in a rather dry style from the administration's point of view, I found this book interesting. I am an alumnae who experienced the events in the center of the book, and I was somewhat familiar with the first part from older alumnae and the last part from the Quarterly. The Quarterly tends to restrict itself to positive rather than neutral or negative happenings. The book filled in my curiosity about what happened to January Term, self-scheduled exams, and comprehensives. I didn't realize that Goucher had owned the property of Towsontown Shopping Center where we used to walk to go shopping. I hadn't realized how much Goucher had suffered financially over time. Apparently I was there at a very good time just after the new campus had been essentially complete. By the way, Goucher is a very good college academically.
