5.0 out of 5 stars Japanese History
I am a history teacher and this book has been more than adequate in helping me preparing for teaching according to the standards of California. This book is very comprehensive so you should search your Kindle for key words like, Prince Shotoku, Daika Reforms, and Sengoku Jidai. That should make reading the book a lot more easier. 1.0 out of 5 stars Very poorly written
Maybe there is a pony in here but it is not worth digging out of the pile. The writing is absolutely terrible - dozens of words where few would have served. It reads like a bad high school paper. "Of course" is in every other run-on sentence, between extraneous parentheticals. It is an academic version of "like, you know, whatever" - insufferable.

5.0 out of 5 stars Japanese History, February 19, 2012

I am a history teacher and this book has been more than adequate in helping me preparing for teaching according to the standards of California. This book is very comprehensive so you should search your Kindle for key words like, Prince Shotoku, Daika Reforms, and Sengoku Jidai. That should make reading the book a lot more easier. The vocabulary can be extravagant at some parts but if your reading it on the Kindle you can easily scroll down to the word and find the definition, but if your reading the actually paper back you better have a dictionary close by and good luck! You cannot beat the price of free for a comprehensive scholarly source of Japanese History. Enjoy!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Wrong Impression., December 22, 2011
The only previous reviewer made this book sound horrible, but sometimes I don't really care. This does have a slight overabundance of words, indeed where a few less would have done the same job. That is not hindering as much as he made it seem. As a high school student, I can say that this is superior to my writing and I am an above average writer for my age group.
