5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Resource, March 18, 2005
This review is from: History for Little Pilgrims (Paperback)
As the other reviewer said, this is a dream come true. This book is specially designed for the Christian homeschooler. As such, it focuses heavily on the Bible as a supplemental history book, has a relevant scripture verse to memorize at the beginning of each of its fifteen chapters, and puts Christ as the beginning, center and end of history. The color illustrations are really cute and lively and the text is easy enough for emerging readers to follow along as it's read out loud and difficult enough to challenge independent readers. The book itself has quality graphics and is very sturdy for a paperback.

My first-grade son reads the sections of the chapters by himself and then we discuss it. Each chapter has a vocabulary list, a suggested art project, a suggested geography lesson (a good atlas or globe will be necessary though the book does have some very detailed and child-friendly maps, and a unit review. I strongly recommend getting the inexpensive coordinating coloring book and teacher's manual from the publisher as well - the whole set will cost you under twenty bucks, making it an excellent value for a self-contained K-1 history curriculum. I am very impressed with this publisher (Christian Liberty Press) in general, so much so that we've since bought other materials from them, but this particular title is fun AND well-rounded.

I would recommend it without hesitation to anyone seeking a Biblical, in-depth, child-friendly introduction to history.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Dream Come True, January 16, 2002

I cannot believe how wonderful this book is!! It tells the story of creation right through to modern times---Just like it really happened. It doesn't make bible and history two different subjects. I am homeschooling my kindergartener and he begs me to do this book with him!!

5.0 out of 5 stars awesome - My son's FAVORITE subject now!, August 28, 2010
This review is from: History for Little Pilgrims (Paperback)
We homeschool and use Heart of Dakota for our curriculum. This is part of their package and is absolutely fabulous. My son loves history and says it is his favorite subject. I would recommend getting the coloring/activity book to go along with it. HOD has activities, but my son LOVES coloring and it helps to reinforce what I am reading. He definately does better if he can 'do something' while i read, tell a story etc. There is also a teachers guide which is quite helpful as well. HOD has similar reinforcement activities, but I like to have lots of options!!! It is hands on as well! Wonderful quality materials, some of the content I do modify, but pretty much anything besides the Bible needs some sort of tweeking.
