4.0 out of 5 stars Barley 4 stars from JR
JR Writer finally releases a solo album on a major label. After alot of mixtapes he finally brings us a "real" album. Though I heard some of his songs on his mixtapes, some were good, others not so good, and the same goes for the album. Though I am not a huge fan of most of the Dipset crew (most are average, with Cam'ron being absolutely horrible), I give them all a shot...

I'm so glad that i don't buy cd's because of Cd's just like this i mean the cd was listenable at times but song 12 40 cal or whoever it is his first few minutes rapping are HORRIBLE and just dosen't stop there i've heard JR on "stop-n-go" and he sounded decent so i said to myself let me go and mess my hardrive up by downloading this cd. This cd is basic dipset music like i really think that camron and some of the others in dipset just sit around the room or in the hood and just think that their style of rapping is the best thing since sliced bread and its not its terrible to me i think that jimmy jones and Santana are reasonable but when you get to rappers like camron and JR ok here's an example of what i'm talking about how they just put words together just to rhyme (something dumb like i'll take a oozie oozie and make you do the doozie doozie while you found dead layin in the jacuzzi cuzzi) like that sounds like a babys first words like these guys really think they're hot only thing that they got that's hot is all the bling bling i'm out this is what i get for trying to listen to different rappers

Though I heard some of his songs on his mixtapes, some were good, others not so good, and the same goes for the album. Though I am not a huge fan of most of the Dipset crew (most are average, with Cam'ron being absolutely horrible), I give them all a shot and a listen, and the album is not all that bad. With 18 songs on here, you get 10 that are good, 7 are ok and 1 I skip. Guests aren't too heavy and are mostly Dip Set members, rapping on 6 songs and doing the hook on 1. Production is decent, nothing special though. Doe Boys do 5 songs, Knoxville does 3, Info, Antwan thompson, Justice League, Narcotics, Flaco the Great, Dame Grease, Nova, Pro V and Dutch beats all do 1 song. If you're a fan of the Dip Set I'd pick it up.

5.0 out of 5 stars History In the Making indeed, August 4, 2006
This review is from: History in the Making (Audio CD)
JR Writer puts out an extremely impressive debut mainstream album. He truly shows why he wears his wings. His lyricism and delvery are incredible. The beats are sizzling and there is no track that gives up. Every song is incredible. A few diplomats show up to lay down their lines, but the majority of the album is JR showing that he can rap with the best. My personal favorite is Goonies feat. Jim Jones and Hell Rell followed closely by Why Try feat. S.A.S. S.A.S. sounds eerily like Bone Thugs N Harmony on the hook on theis track. All the tracks on this album are banging placing History In the Making as one of the best albums of the year.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Movement Continues....., July 27, 2006

The title definitely fits well with this album cause J.R. proved that he can do more than just the mixtape scene with joints like "Grill Em" and "Xtacy" but besides the singles, bangers like "Riot Pump" and "He's Moving" definitely bang out, "High Music" is funny as ****. His heart felt joints are "To Be a Diplomat" and "My Life". Fire album along with "Killa Season", cop both if you a fan of The Movement. P.S. Better than all of the down south crap coming out(excluding Wayne, T.I., and Luda)

5.0 out of 5 stars Will go down in history as one of the year's greatest albums, July 21, 2006

Dipset has delivered yet another good release. I enjoyed the new albums by Cam and Juelz and J.R is most certainly a "writer". It's got good lyrics and bangin beats. I don't know if this will make my top 10 list for the year's best albums, but it certainly is good and should be picked up as soon as possible. J.R Writer is a very talented rapper that should get your supporting. Stop supporting down south garbage like D4L and Dem Franchize Boyz and get some quality hip hop.

4.0 out of 5 stars the writer of writers on his first non mixtape project, July 23, 2006
This review is from: History in the Making (Audio CD)
this cd is not as good as his mixtapes but i think it is still fire. i am surpriesed about the bad reviews. jr is one of the better lyrisists out. and he may sound a little like cam but every one in that set sounds a little like him. writers block 1 through 3 are very very impresive mixtapes so to anyone that is doubting writers skills needs to give thoughs a listen. the only big production name is develop on byrd call with camron which i was surprised that this was the only cam feature. and about cam yes his flow is a little dr susish but that is known thats how he is hes never tryed to change that. i personaly think its creative and at time comical. i do not think that dipset is over rated at all i mean besides d-block is there a better set right now in the north. they are a strong team of lyrisits that consistently put out enjoyable material.

now more on the cd. the intro track starts off with j r tellin his story of the struggle and frusteration he went through to be down with the byrd gang. goonies has jime jones and the hardes out hell rell doin there thing and i think it is one of the tighter songs on the cd. grill em is like a dipset tear the club up song. pay homage has 40 cal flow on the track which i think he does a good job. why try is another one of my personal favorites with s.a.s. featuring. im glad they were on this dipset cd bc they were left off the last 2 projects. these 2 mc are gunna be the next big thing mega and myham are very lyrical sound mcs that strengthen the set greatly. and houstons paul wall is on track 18 raping about drank and dimonds like he always does. his flow is sick wat it dew paul.

i think this is a good first album from an artist with a very bright future. if u liked this album check out writers block 1 2 and 3 it is a lyrical workshop that shows why i think j r has the ability to be one of the greats. buy the album he is sick
