Insanely thick, small print, and worth every second you spend reading it: the standard by which all other histories of space flight should be judged against. I have read all or parts of this book multiple times since I first read it in the mid-1980's, and I still find it to be a top-notch work concerning space programs. Due to being published during the Cold War, information about the Soviet program is naturally limited, however this historical artifact in no way detracts from the majority of the book. Published in 1985.
