This review is from: A History of Navigation on Cypress Bayou and the Lakes (Hardcover)
This is a very comprehensive history (over 600 pages) of the development of water navigation routes through northwest Louisiana (Red River) and northeast Texas (Caddo Lake and Cypress Bayou) in the early 1800's. The author develops his opinion on how Caddo Lake was created due to the Great Raft on the Red River and explains why the earthquake creation theory is not feasible. The book seems to be very well researched, and the author documents his decisions with the source materials he reviewed. In addition to the geography of the area, the author discusses the Caddo Indian inhabitants, the early white settlers, and the comprehensive discussion of navigation by steamboats from New Orleans and Shreveport, LA up to Jefferson, TX. This book is a must-read for anyone interested in the history of this area.
