5.0 out of 5 stars A sheer delight to read!, April 9, 2001
This review is from: History of North Dakota (Paperback)
This book is not written in a particularly sprightly style and yet I found it a work fascinating in the extreme. It starts at the very beginning , and I am sorry it only goes up to 1966. The chapter on the Non-Partisan League (1915-1923) was the most interesting. And Bill Langer had a fascinating career, the account of which was made more attention-holding for me because I used to go to the Senate gallery when I was going to law school in Washington and listen to his orations. Unforgettable, since unique. This is a great and memorable book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good resource, June 19, 2010
Exhaustive detail about the 1890-1940 political evolutions in North Dakota. Communists. socialists. non-partisan league and republicans. Mostly a history of Eastern North Dakota, but this is understandable given that Dr. Robinson was faculty at UND which is a couple of feet from Minnesota. This is the college text used at UND for many years to teach Nodak history. Excelloent resource for understanding pioneer life on the upper plains, indian wars, communism/socialism in the U.S., the depression and answers the question, "Why do so few people live in North Dakota?" Typical college professor anti-business slant. Very well researched and documented.
