5.0 out of 5 stars Not A Bomb, April 26, 2006
By
This review is from: History of Nuclear Defense - Surviving Atomic Attack (2-DVD Set) (DVD)
It must have been terrifying to go to school and grow up in the 50s. Between air raid drills and worries about the Soviet Union, I am so glad I grew up in more modern times.

I got a good sense of why my parents were so worried about things when i was growing up and these films made me really feel like I was back in the Cold War era in a way that the History Channel doesn't.

My favorite scene was MarArthur comming back from Korea

5.0 out of 5 stars Finally A Documentary That Let's Me Think For Myself, April 27, 2006

This review is from: History of Nuclear Defense - Surviving Atomic Attack (2-DVD Set) (DVD)
One of my pet peaves with so many documentaries out there is that the narration overshadows the real footage that I've paid to watch.

I often don't know what background or bias the commentator has and when he or she talks over the film clips it drives me crazy.

That's why I liked his documentary - which is mostly clips of old films about what to do if the Russians attacked us with nukes.

You get to see all of the footage and put it into your own context and experience. It trusts me to think for myself.

That said, I was surprised at how people back in the 1950s seemed to think that school desks would protect them from a nuclear bomb.

We've come a long way baby.
