5.0 out of 5 stars Great hands-on supplement for history
My fifth grader loves colonial American and Revolutionary war history. with all the reading she has been doing on the subject, I found this a nice way to provide some projects for a learning portfolio. For someone homeschooling with a curriculum such as Sonlight that focuses a lot on books, this can add some crafts and color to the program. Don't expect that this book...

3.0 out of 5 stars Can Be Hit or Miss Depending on the Individual Child
One of my children absolutely *LOVES* the "History Pockets" series. Another can't stand them and considers them "busywork". The information is solid and the student who enjoys the activities will likely learn a lot from doing them. Highly recommended IF your child doesn't mind all the cutting, pasting, and coloring required.

For someone homeschooling with a curriculum such as Sonlight that focuses a lot on books, this can add some crafts and color to the program. Don't expect that this book will be all you need to cover the time period, it doesn't replace a curriculum or good library books, but it is a great complement for a history program.

5.0 out of 5 stars Just the Facts!, August 12, 2006
This review is from: History Pockets: Colonial America, Grades 4-6+ (Paperback)
History pockets teachs just the facts. This product is especially good for children with special needs who have comprehension difficulties and cannot handle the traditional textbook. It is also great for the student who gets bored with the traditional history textbook. The hands on approach keeps the child's attention and creates a lasting impact that helps the child remember the significant events in history. Toss the textbook with it's fluff and puff. It's a BIG time waster. Get this product. You will keep your child's attention and they will remember what you have taught them!

5.0 out of 5 stars History Pocket Review, September 9, 2007
This review is from: History Pockets: Colonial America, Grades 4-6+ (Paperback)
This product has been a great edition to our My Father's World History Program. We are also so using the Life in Plymouth Colony Grades 1-3 History Pockets. We also added the North American Explorers History Pockets as well and have really enjoyed it. I would recommend these products to anyone who enjoys hands on visual projects for their kids to work on.

4.0 out of 5 stars cut and paste, July 12, 2009
This review is from: History Pockets: Colonial America, Grades 4-6+ (Paperback)
the activities contain good info and provide all needed info to the teacher for prep and presentation. My one reservation is that the activities are almost exclusively cut, paste and color. However, the information provided is interesting and helps kids get a grasp of the reality of history not just the names and dates. I don't really think this reaches up to the 6th grade level though. 4th and 5th graders should love it!
