This review is from: The History and Religion of Israel (New Clarendon Bible-Ot Series) (Paperback)
This is pretty much a straight read through, simple and succinct. There are hardly any footnotes and 99% of the ones that exist are references to the two anthologies of ANE texts he uses. (Pritchard's and Thomas's) There are several decent-quality black-and-white photos (mostly of artifacts), however. This short volume is not meant to be exhaustive. It's part of the Clarendon Bible Series, which I assume is generally for initiation. It's more of a summary of current Old Testament history and religion (patriarchs - postexilic times) with brief allusions to various opinions of scholarship up to the time of writing, although to my memory none are named. The more conservative tone of the author is evident throughout. R. J. Collins adds a chronological table (early-second millennium B.C.- first century BC) at the end of the book. It's a handy little volume. For what it's supposed to be, I give it five stars.

Fun Fact:

* I couldn't find many of my 'Fun Facts' in this book, except for the text on p. 182 reading: 'To questions' when it should be 'Two questions'.
