5.0 out of 5 stars Great History of a Great Company, October 29, 2007
Smith & Wesson is a great company with a great tradition. And, they have been intelligent enough to have an official company historian who is a respected authority on firearms, Roy G. Jinks.

Jinks is the fellow who answers your letters to Smith & Wesson about specific guns. I have a couple of them which were used in an infamous gunfight near here in 1926 and got very helpful letters explaining the gunmarks, the date of production and who the gun was shipped to out of the factory.

Jinks' HISTORY OF SMITH & WESSON: NO THING OF IMPORTANCE WILL COME WITHOUT EFFORT, is a well-illustrated, well-written company history which will be appreciated by any collector/shooter. Generations of peace officers have gone into harm's way with a Smith & Wesson at their side. For almost two decades, I did too.

The revolvers I carried are well described and illustrated in here. So are the ones earlier generations of officers carried. This is a history book which follows a timeline, however, and it is not organized for easy, quick reference.

I gave the book five stars, but will note that it would be easier to use with a more comprehensive index. That said, it's hard to find a better book on this important company and its products, as the previous reviewer has noted.

If you are interested in Smith & Wesson products or history, this is an excellent book, written by the man who knows best - the S&W historian Roy Jinks.
