5.0 out of 5 stars Hallows Eve - History of Terror
This box set was first released in 06 but I didn't here of it until a few months ago and had to pick it up. I am a huge fan of Hallows Eve, have been since'86 when I first heard them. These guys were way ahead of their time.Anyone who was fortunate enough to be around back then when speed/thrash metal was just beginning will remember all the great bands. Hallows Eve was...

3.0 out of 5 stars Down With Lazy Engineers
I gotta tell ya: I still think the album Tales of Terror (the first 8 tracks on this compendium) is one of the best albums ever recorded, and that's why I got this boxed set -- so I could get the remasters of that brilliant work. The next two studio albums were okay, not so brilliant. I listened to all of them numerous times as a kid, but anymore it's Tales of Terror...

5.0 out of 5 stars Hallows Eve - History of Terror, June 10, 2008

This box set was first released in 06 but I didn't here of it until a few months ago and had to pick it up. I am a huge fan of Hallows Eve, have been since'86 when I first heard them. These guys were way ahead of their time.Anyone who was fortunate enough to be around back then when speed/thrash metal was just beginning will remember all the great bands. Hallows Eve was too often overlooked or underrated.Their first three albums were brilliant!!(Death & Insanity was my favorite)All three albums are here remastered as well as some early demo/live stuff. The DVD is a great bonus! I've read that some people think the audio is terrible but thats not so. The audio is actually very damn good considering how old the footage is. It's not high quality audio but VERY listenable. (The DVD does play here in the states if anyone is wondering!)I highly recommend this set for any fan of the band or the early days of underground Metal. Thank You Metal Blade for releasing this set!!! Horns High!!!!

For the price, you can not beat this. All three albums- all of which are great! Plus lots of extra bonus songs and a live DVD- which is a great look back into the day when metal was great.
The only downside is the rehearsal and live tracks are of poor sound- but what do you expect for a bonus rehearsal track?
Buy this- great metal from a band that should have been much bigger.

It's pretty amazing to see such a beautiful and comprehensive package like this for a band that never enjoyed a ton of success. Thank you Metal Blade for the effort that went into this - this set is well worth checking out for any fan of old school 80's metal - I guarantee it will be like discovering buried treasure. Hallows Eve could thrash with the best of 'em but what really amazes is how memorable so many of these songs are after all these years - there are endless catchy choruses and musical hooks and hearing them again after 15+ years is a joy.

The live DVD is all bootlegs and of lower quality, but it really gives the vibe of those early years and how hungry hard working bands like Hallows Eve were back in the glory days of a very exciting scene. 4 for the music, 5 for the package.

Would LOVE to see a Nasty Savage package like this from Metal Blade!

5.0 out of 5 stars "the boxed set buy of the year"(so far), June 9, 2006
This review is from: History Of Terror (3CD / DVD) (Audio CD)
i'm still fairly new to hallows eve.i heard samples of their stuff over the past few years & planned to eventually purchase a disk or two.anyway i stumbled upon this "History of terror " recently here on amazon.reading the track listings, i realized this set contains every song, from every album(xcluding the recent come back effort)in their original order plus bonus trax,a live disc & a live DVD w/ 45 songs!!all this for just a little more than one of their albums by itsself.at this point my only apprehention was the possibilaty the band had remixed or redone the songs as some from their time have done(Mike Muir,Glenn Danzig,Dave Mustaine).this is a serious turn off for me. anyway i took a chance & was so NOT sorry!! it was better than i hoped it would be.everythings original & remastered, the bonus trax include their first demo tape & two very raw rehearsal tapes from 1984 w/ covers from the likes of Alice Cooper, canadas'Exciter & (ex band for two of H.E.s line up)Warrior.the live cd & dvd contain entire sets & excerpts from 7 shows spanning from 1985 to 88.a previously unrealeased track & an AC/DC cover are thrown into this mix.the inlay books are loaded w/ band history, photos, old flyers oh, & the lyrics!the 4 disc set takes the space of two discs on your shelf.i won't go into detail about the music (basic early eighties thrash metal).you can click on the indivisual albums to read reveiws or sample songs.oh & if anyone from metal blade is reading this ,PLEASE!!! consider SACRED REICH for this awsome boxed set treatment.

I gotta tell ya: I still think the album Tales of Terror (the first 8 tracks on this compendium) is one of the best albums ever recorded, and that's why I got this boxed set -- so I could get the remasters of that brilliant work. The next two studio albums were okay, not so brilliant. I listened to all of them numerous times as a kid, but anymore it's Tales of Terror alone that does it for me. So I just listened to the remastered version Tales of Terror featured here. Y'know, even when I had piped the cassette into my PC and made a CD out of it, I fixed the stereo fluctuations on the track "Hallow's Eve." (The track leans to one side then pops back to the center twice.) Unfortunately, whoever did this project neglected to correct this error. I hate when they make a remaster and they don't fixed retarded mistakes like that. Boo, lazy engineer! Boo! BTW: The live stuff and demos in this set are for completely insanely devoted fans only. They almost shatter my grandiose image Hallow's Eve -- after worshipping their godlike (though admittedly flawed) debut album then hearing them sound like any other lousy local beer-swilling '80s metal band in some small room full of idiots. This is your final warning.
