are you serious?,
By A Customer
This review is from: History of Trance (Audio CD)
I gave two stars for the fact that these tracks are trance classics. They are dance floor stormers. They bring me back to great times and these tracks are timeless. I negged the other three stars because there are, literally, HUNDREDS of CD compilations that have been made in the past few years with ALL of these same tracks. This is simply another record company capitalizing on the past. Don't be a sucker, this CD is for newbies.

A history of trance,

I haven't been a George Acosta fan for a long time, maybe a couple of years now. I decided to check him out two years ago based on a review of George's 2002 album "Next Level" by one of my amazon buddies. I was immediately hooked. George reminded me of early Paul Oakenfold (before "Bunkka") and a bit of Paul Van Dyk. His choices in songs were great. 2003's "Touched" really took George to the next plateau in trance music I thought. Although there were some break beats through out the songs, I thought George maintained his trance roots while he expanded his horizons. Today I picked up his collection of the hottest trance songs in music of the past decade. As tired as I am of the DJ Tiesto's remix of Delerium's "Silence", the overall quality of the compilation is solid. George really covers the biggest trance songs in the past ten years. All the songs are great, even the tiresome "Silence". I especially fell in love with Lustral's "Everytime". The ethereal female vocals and heavenly, addictive melodies is what made me become a big trance junkie. This is what dance music is and should be about. "The History of Trance" really does a good job of covering trance's biggest hits in the past ten years, like the smash "Children" by Robert Miles and Sasha's "Xpander". With Paul Oakenfold not having put out a consistent album since "Perfecto Presents Another World", George Acosta has definitely risen to the ranks as one of the few trance djs that I still love (next to Sandra Collins, DJ Tiesto, and Paul Van Dyk). If you love trance, this is the cd to get. George Acosta does an amazing job of making the songs flow cohesively together.

This is a good compilation of Trance classics BUT........George, what the HELLLLLL is Jon F'N Secada DOING ON THIS CD ???? Oh my god...
George...George...George...you LOST A LOT of dj street cred by including Jon "sugar pop latin bile" on your otherwise good CD. WOW. REALLY?? I can only imagine that Jon is your boy. He deserves to be on this CD as much as Elvis. ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS.

Incredible!!!,

George Acosta's latest record is simply incredible, second only to his last record, Miami. The only reason I say this is because, as the title suggests, it is a history of trance, meaning a lot of the songs are old songs that you've heard many times before. Aside from that minor gripe however, the CD is sweet. You'll find a new reason to love these songs all over again, or discover them for the first time. Either way, if you are a trance and/or George Acosta fan, you need this CD.

For those who say this doesn't sound like george. LOOOOKKK AT The TITLE. He did a wonderful job of hitting the high spots of Trance Music and its history. This is one of the few cd's thats has the listenability that you can keep in your cd changer for months without taking out.
There is even some anthems that i missed and i have been into trance since 95. All in all this cd is exactly what it says "The History of Trance". Buy,Enjoy and thank me later.;-)

Hands down Acosta is the man ...the best trance dj in the buisness. With 15 years of experience behind the decks, this man has NEVER ceased to amaze me with his mixes.Every one of his albums are different which proves that he's evolving into an even better dj!I wouldn't say this is the best, but he did an excellent job with the track selection. This cd brings back the awesome memories of a few years ago when I joined the dance scene, and pours out emotions as it progresses. This man is so talented he could take anything and mix it together. Some of his best mixes include "Awake" "AM PM" and "Miami"Give this one a listen you wont be dissapointed!

AWESOME,

If you would have told me that any dj could take all these classic tracks and not only mix them together, but make it sound good too, I would not have believed you. Acosta pulls it off here though. I have a lot of these tracks on other albums, but these comiplations are great. It brings me back to the warehouse rave days of trance before it was moved into the club scenes. George has been around for a loooong time; most people will remember his radio dance hit under the name "Planet Soul", "Set U Free". I still pull out that cd every so often, even though it's from 93. Electronic dance music is always about what's new and current, but George does give a great history of classic tracks here. Well worht buying and listening to. Great effort, George.

Why George, why?,
By Angel Gonzalez "DJ Zodiac" (Fairhaven, MA USA) - See all my reviews

First off, I must agree with a previous reviewer by saying that this cd IS for "newbies" to the genre. Second, I must agree with another reviewer by saying that there are way too many "past trance anthems" compilation cds out there. This wasn't too bright of an idea for George, let alone an original idea. That's why I bet a lot of trance fans didn't even bother with this cd, even George's fans. He better make up for this tragedy in '05. Sorry George, but you're skating on thin ice with me now.

A Nice Collection,
This review is from: History of Trance (Audio CD)
As a relative newcomer to the genre, I find this collection useful, easy to listen to, and enjoyable. While I am not an expert in this style, I do believe that this is a solid collection and recommend it to anyone who wants to have at his or her disposal a variety of Trance material.

The 'old' Acosta is history,
By szluf (Chicago, ill) - See all my reviews
This review is from: History of Trance (Audio CD)
Acosta is becoming too boring whereas his older cd's were a lot better in terms of variation, rythym, tempo, etc. Acosta seems like he's just putting stuff out with no god effort. The first cd is crud and the second one makes up for the first which is why this history of trance should really get 2.5 stars. I liked cd 2 b/c it is at a faster pace and isn't epic which totally accounts for a bore seminar. Where is the 'old' Acosta?
