All knowledge can be traced to its roots, but the task is not an easy one. This magnificent account of the history of transplantation immunology was 7 years in preparation by one of the principal architects of the new scientific discipline. The book is lucidly written, scrupulously researched, and extensively annotated. It is a must read for anyone who wants to know how the field evolved and where it is going.
