This book is an excellent source for infomation on the Vestal Virgins. It also provides many ancient and modern sources to consult for further information. It is the best complete reference source out there that I have been able to locate about the Vestals.

This is a complete and thorough history of the Vestal Virgins. It includes religious and civil duties, festivals, and even the dress of the Vestals. It references close to 100 authors, including ancient texts. There are about a dozen illustrations of Vestal memorabilia. Illustratons include not only the usual statues and diagrams of the buildings, but even coins struck to commemorate the re-building of the Atrium Vestae after the fire of A.D. 191.I found the book hard to read. Although there is plenty of information, it is not organized in such a way that one gets a holistic view of the Vestal Virgins or their role in ancient Rome.
