This is one of the best of the historical books on ancient Rome. Livy is one of the most knowledgeable Roman historians. And this book is an easy read. You will not be bored.

I shop and purchase quite a few of the compilations offered by Amazon.com. They are a tremendous value as well as providing a user friendly way of enjoying large volumes of reading material. I highly recommend this to all Kindle readers.

4.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful December 31, 2012

I dip in and out of this one. It is great to read about that era from someone who was there with no other agenda than to share his knowledge.

1.0 out of 5 stars Table of Contents July 28, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This product description says that it has an active Table of Contents. When downloaded to my Kindle Fire the TOC is grayed out. For .99 who can complain, but an active TOC is so very helpful when using an Ebook. They need to correct their description.

3.0 out of 5 stars worth reading but challenging at places August 15, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Reflects good scholarship but the narrative is challenging at places probably due to translation from Latin. Provides good insight into the development of Rome from a city state and evolution of the Roman Senate.

4.0 out of 5 stars Ab urbe condita. May 24, 2013

Not to feel an excitement in the blood at the very mention of ROME, Athens and Jerusalem shows a definite lack of appreciation of our Western Culture and Civilisation. Even TIME itself is reckoned from its very foundation!! To read the Story of the City of Rome and the Roman Empire is truly exciting. Virgil, the great Roman Poet, wrote these words about the Roman Empire: "Tantae molis erat Romanam condere gentem". The Western Man must know his 'roots' or else lose his very foundations. It is important that we know the beginnings of our great History. Livy tells us this Story and apparently for Livy, Rome was the 'glory of the world' - such a wonder She had produced on the World Stage for all to see. Amazon is doing us all a favour in making these Books available. Because they are 'give-aways' as regaqrds price let us not de-value them. It is not just a matter of reading the Story as told by Livy, but it is a matter of understanding and comprehending the Glories that belong to ROME- Literature, Philosophy, Law, Poetry, Medicine, Polotics etc.. If I may add a word or two- the Story of Rome does not end with Livy- the dying and the rejuvenation of the Empire is another Story. Thanks to Amazon we have all the Books. To any Reader- tolle, lege...lege lege!!!
Ignotus.

4.0 out of 5 stars Tough read but great insight March 9, 2013

I chose this rank because I believe the series is worth the effort. It is a bit tough to get through but in the end you have a very technical insight. Kind of puts all of the latest movies on the subject to the side and paints a more accurate picture.

This is really only of interest to true historians. I thought it would be interesting to read but I could only force my way through about 10% of it. very dry.
