5.0 out of 5 stars Good Vintage Footage
This is some of the oldest film footage I've ever ordered on DVD. You can see the age in the grain of the film, but it's not really that distracting. If anything, it makes it seem more real, you know?

The clips try to make light of the boys going off to war - and I'm sure their original intent was to make Americans less freaked out about their soldiers...

1.0 out of 5 stars Judge by its cover?
I cannot help but think, if the producers were so careless as to use an image of WWII german tanks on the cover of this WWI DVD, how careless were they with the rest of the product?

It makes this part of history seem real to me in a way that history class didn't.

In a day and age when we are debating the role of America as "The World's Policeman" it's interesting to see documentary footage from an era when the country was mostly isolationist and only went off to war in Europe as a last resort - after all, didn't our ocean's protect us? The footage here is very good, particularly considering how old it is (1914 to 1917) and how hard it must have been to preserve. There is footage from both before the war with the president motivivating people to fight and during the battles t hemselves, which is the original trench warfare in the War To End All Wars. I liked the fact that there is little to no narration, so the films have to stand up on their own - and they do so very well.
