Freida Carson Histology review,
By A Customer
This review is from: Histotechnology: A Self-Instructional Text (Hardcover)
I think this is one of the best instructional histology books I have seen. It gives a solid background of the information needed to certify with the board of registry and allows a individual to learn on there own while working in the histo laboratory. This book has helped me to grasp all basis in the subject while keeping it interesting and not dull. I strongly suggest this book along with the instructional workbook for anyone who is starting out in the field of histology. It will be worth your money.

Most Over-rated text in Histotechnology,
This review is from: Histotechnology: A Self-Instructional Text (Slide)
This is without doubt, the most over-rated histotechnology textbook on the market. The reason for it's success is because it has been pushed by the ASCP and is used for the foundation of the ASCP histotechnology examination (again extremely poor curriculum and examination).
If you really want to understand the science behind histotechnology and not a cook-book format, you must read either John Kiernan's "Histological and Histochemical Methods: Theory and Practice" or John Bancroft's "Theory and Practice of Histological Techniques"

This review is from: Histotechnology: A Self-Instructional Text (Hardcover)
This is with no doubt one of the best book written in the field of histology and pathohistology. I used this book intensively while writing my research thesis. The book is very professional and it is written in a "user friendly" manner. Excellent reference book for every pathology, histology student and laboratory.

An absolute must for the ASCP exam,

This review is from: Histotechnology: A Self-Instructional Text (Hardcover)
Frieda Carson's book is a must buy for anyone in the field of Histotechnology. I would not say that it is an exhaustive book, but it covers a good amount and gives a good representation of general areas, especially those topics that are covered on the ASCP exam. I often find myself referring to it at work. The book does not really delve too deeply into IHC but does provide a very basic primer on it.

IF YOU WANT TO PASS YOUR ASCP HT/HTL EXAM, BUY THIS AND READ IT, INHALE IT, MAKE IT PART OF YOUR MOLECULAR STRUCTURE. REMEMBER TO MEMORIZE ALL YOUR FIXATIVES, EVEN THOSE THAT HAVEN'T BEEN USED SINCE LIKE PASTEUR, THEY ARE ALL ON THE TEST :-)

Good Book,
This review is from: Histotechnology: A Self-Instructional Text (Hardcover)
This is a good read and a good reference book to have. Some concepts can be better explained and newer images (different resolutions) would be a big plus, but overall, it is a book that one should have on the shelf.

OVERRATED!,
This review is from: Histotechnology: A Self-Instructional Text (Hardcover)
I have this book and the new self-assessment workbook and going through both texts I am annoyed by how many typos/wrong answers I am finding in both of these books!!! For this level I would hope to see zero typos and wrong answers. From other people that I have talked to I am finding that the book by Bancroft is the way to go!
