The CD you advertise is not the original group from the 50's.the Jive Bombers from the 50's were Afro american and sang songs, such as Bad Boy and When you Hair has turned to Silver.

I linked to Amazon from a lyrics website looking for a Jive Bombers album from the 1950's. This is not it. This listed album has a Western swing type sound -- you may listen for yourself and judge it on its merits. Adding to the confusion, there is currently an Australian band that has used the same name. So, if you want the original Jive Bombers, with songs like Bad Boy, take the word of the other reviewers and keep on looking.

Austin, Texas Jump Blues band from the late '90s,
By
This review is from: Hit the Deck Its (Audio CD)
To dispel confusion about other bands called "The Jive Bombers", This "Jive Bombers" were one of the best neo-swing/jump blues dance-friendly bands that formed up in the late '90's in Austin, Texas (like Merchants of Venus), and their song selections, both original and covers, are very dancable for those into east coast swing, rockabilly and jitterbug. They used to play regularly at venues like Carosel Lounge and the Caucus Club while those venues were featuring swing music. The band had a great stage chemistry, and many of ther songs have a sort of fun back and forth between Dana and Shaun & the other members (e.g., "The Wine Comes in and the Truth Comes out") Tracks: 1. Whirlin' (S. Young) 2. Walk the Chalk Line (L. Pack) 3. Home Cooking (S. Young) 4. Daddy likes To Mambo (S. Young) 5. Misunderstood (S. Young) 6. I Don't Believe (B. Hortun) 7. Each Day (David Clowney, Bob Kornegay, Paul Winley) 8. The Wine Goes In (And The Truth Comes Out) (B. Hortun, D. Dattalo) 9. Gotta Gimme Whatcha Got (Julia Lee) 10. Oh What a Dream (Chuck Willis) 11. Walkin, Slippin and Slidin (Mike Gordon) 12. The Hucklebuck ( A. Gibson/R. Alfred) 13. Travelin' Baby (Sammy Yates) 14. Missouri Pacific Or Santa Fe (S. Young) 15. Beat Out The Boogie (S. Young) Although recorded in '98-99, This album has a sort of 50's "period" sound to it, and they used a lot of vintage equipment to record it, and mixed it in mono (it was produced and engineered by Billy Hortun). If you like it, you should also check out Bobby Hortun and Derek Peterson's "14 Jawbreaking Hits", which two of the members were working on simultaneously at the same studio... Bobby Hortun, an excellent rockabilly lead guitarist, went on to play with Deke Dickerson for a while. The Jive Bombers consisted of: Dana Dattalo - Vocals, T.D.(Murph) Motycka - Sax, Bobby Hortun - Guitar/Vox, Derek Peterson - Piano/Vox, Vance Hazen - Upright Bass, Shaun Young - Drums, Vocals

Reviews are a little mixed up,

Just reading the two reviews on this page and wow! are these guys mixed up. This band is not the 50's vocal group but a new jump blues band from Austin Tx. Of course this guy isn't going to like the record if he's expecting pop doo wop from the 50's. Did'nt he even notice the FEMAL lead volcals, which are top notch. The band swings and the recording is very authentic. The Sax leads are killer! You can dance to this one all night long!

Just Misunderstood....?,

Well this was my first outing with the Jive Bombers, comments of the other reviewer noted, but I listened without any expectations and found the album to be useful. I'm a big 40's and 50's fan, and an even bigger Jive fan. Granted some tracks have disjointed even painful backing, I struggled with Whirlin and Walk the Chalk Line, but found the album redeems itself with tracks like Each day, which should please revivalists and jivers alike. More of this please....less of the bad timing back-up boys...A reluctant 4 stars mainly in favour of the one or two good tracks.

Jive Bombers Nose Dive,
By Wayne O. Paton (Panama City Beach, FL USA) - See all my reviews

It was with eager anticipation that I awaited this compliation of songs from the 50's. As I unwrapped the CD, I sang the famous Jive Bomber hit " I'm Just A Bad Boy ....La.La La La ......." and thought to myself that the best is yet to come. How wrong I was. This great group had somehow allowed corporate execs to dictate what cuts would make this CD....because, it surely was not the owners of the sweet dulcet tones which, for so long, emulated from the fabulous Jive Bombers. Uninspired selections and disjointed backup music detract from the groups efforts in a big way. In fact, the most inspired cut of all is the 1940's classic " The Hucklebuck ". If the Jive Bombers ( or a knockoff group featuring one or more of the original members ) are still touring in Oldies Shows, pray that none of these selections are included in their repetoire. Bring back the Bad Boy !!!
